This album, a beautiful collection of favorites, is Victor Provost's debut solo release. Victor began playing pan at the St. John School of the Arts in St. John, Virgin Islands at just eleven years old. By the time he was fourteen he had already performed in five different countries in North America and Europe with Steel Unlimited II, the School of Arts youth steel band. When the group disbanded he set out on his solo career.

His diverse musical background of classical, jazz, blues, soul and Caribbean music has allowed Victor to develop a unique voice on his instrument. His genuinely authentic approach to Caribbean music and intellectual approach to all other genres makes him one of the most highly sought after pan players in the region.

Enjoy the great sounds of steel pan with this album.

I was introduced to Victor Provost's CD, Smooth Steel, during a Podcast From Paradise and I just had to find out more about it! I followed a link to Victor's website and listened to some sound bytes and I was SOLD! I am very picky when it comes to Steel Pan music and I waited a long time before buying a CD, and I can tell you this one does not disappoint! Victor's arrangement of Girl From Ipanema takes you right back to "island time", and if you like Spyro Gyra's "Morning Dance", you'll LOVE Victor's version of it! "May May" is a nice upbeat tune that makes you want to get up and dance! The entire album is excellent! I leave it in the CD player in my car and listen to it over and over again without ever getting tired of it! I can highly recommend "Smooth Steel" if you want some great, professional Steel Pan music that will transport you virtually back to the islands.
