From 'peak to reef', from the summits of our highest places to the ocean shelf, the native vegetation and marine habitats of the Virgin Islands are of great importance to residents, researchers and visitors. Few publications adequately describe these local plants and marine community types, their classification, and their distribution through the Territory.

This field guide, produced cooperatively by several organizations, is meant to educate people, act as a field reference, and showcase the unique and valuable natural areas in the Virgin Islands. It is also meant to teach about the critical link between the land and the sea, with an emphasis on how human beings impact it and their responsibility for these natural resources as stewards of the planet.
