Settlers Handbook: If you are planning a move to the U.S. Virgin Islands, investing in the islands or if you are a new resident this book is a must have! The 201 page Settlers Handbook for the U.S. Virgin Islands is your guide to moving to St. Croix, St. John and St. Thomas. It includes moving tips and information on what to expect. There is helpful information on renting a home, taxes, real estate, schools and employment. It tells how to move personal items, furniture, pets and cars. It lists private schools, churches, information on hospitals and clinics. It has information on: the university, libraries, a variety of sports and recreation. It touches on culture and history and gives an overview of each island. It tells how the various departments of government function, and offers information on the business climate, taxes and EDC/tax incentives. There is a cost of living section with rates on apartment rentals and utility rates; handy for helping you generate an estimated budget. There is a section on construction costs, some energy saving tips and information on recycling. Also included are lists and telephone numbers for government agencies, organizations, doctors and businesses. 15th Edition, released November 2008.
Virgin Islands Franko Guide Map is included to help you figure out where things are located, perhaps while you are reading about them in the Settlers Handbook or maybe when looking for apartments, schools or work. The map includes St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John.
Finding an apartment, work, yard sales, used cars and other similar information and classified ads is often a matter of flipping through the local paper, so a copy of the St. Thomas Daily News, St. Croix Avis and the weekly Island Trader (a newspaper filled mostly with classifieds and short articles) are included. The Houses Real Estate Magazine, which covers all of the U.S. Virgin Islands, will help you get a feel for real estate options and find realtors.
And Visitor's Booklets for the U.S. Virgin Islands. Read through these and learn about recreational activities, beaches, watersports, local activities, art, history and other topics; because the things vacationers come to the U.S. Virgin Islands to enjoy are the very same things residents enjoy on weekends and when off from work.

I bought the Settler's handbook earlier and love it. Now I want the packet of newspapers, etc. so I can search property listings and further my plans to move to USVI. The Guide Book is all you would hope it to be, listing ALL kinds of useful info. Buy it!

I'm finding the Settler's Handbook extremely helpful in answering a lot of my "I want to move to the Islands" questions. In fact, it's answering questions I didn't even think to ask!

The Settlers Handbook was useful in many ways- it told me all I needed to know about the islands. Where I found it lacking was information for people that only wanted to be seasonal workers or wanting to rent.
